(8/11/010) Congratulations to Harry James who swam at the Winter Regionals on 6/7 November. He swam 50m Breaststroke (32.61), 100m Breaststroke (1:11.72), 200m Breaststroke (2:33.77), 100 IM (1:05.89), 200 IM (2:20.68). All PBs and all club records. Well done Harry!
(1/11/10) Well done to Lindsay Kelly Onay and Asuka Wakatsuki who swam at the Masters National Championships in Sheffield (29th-31st October) with impressive results:

Lindsay - 5th 200m Butterfly, 6th 400m Freestyle, 12th 200m Freestyle, 13th 100m Freestyle (40 - 45 yr old)
Asuka - 12th 800m Freestyle, 14th 200m Freestyle, 15th 100m Breaststroke, 16th 100m Freestyle, 16th 400m Freestyle. (30-34 yr old)

(20/10/10) Some great swims by those who swam at Southampton. Emily Nisbet got 4 golds (50m free, 100m free, 200 free, 200 IM) and 2 club records (200 free, 200 IM). Jake Kay took silver in the 100m Fly and bronze in the 100m free while Harry James also got a bronze in the 100m breaststroke taking yet another club record. Well done also to Daniel Jenkins, Cordelia Halfhead, Niamh Thomson, Anna Bedford and Rachael Bedford.

19/9/10: Well done and a big thankyou to all the children and adults who helped with bag packing at Sainsbury's on Saturday 18th September. We had some fabulous feedback from the public and received many comments about the children's politeness - a credit to the club. And to top it all we raised a massive £836.14

Congratulations to everyone who swam in the final of the Milton Keynes mini-league on Saturday 11th September. WWHSC came a brilliant 2nd place which means that we move up into the higher division next year! Well done to the swimmers and thanks to all the parents who came to support them - we maintained the tradition of being the noisiest group of supporters! Full results HERE

18/7/10: On 17th July WWHSC welcomed 2 British swimmers hoping to compete at the Commonwealth games later this year. Ian Hulme (butterfly) and Michael Jamieson (breastroke) spent 3 hours giving 40 swimmers from the club tips on these 2 technical strokes. Full report here:

May 2010 The first weekend of Regional Championships (29/30 May) saw 2 bronze medals for Wantage:

Harry James 200m Breast ( 2:42.66 - PB LC)
Todd Giles 1500m Freestyle (19:45.05 - PB LC)
All 4 Wantage qualifiers (Harry, Todd, Matthew Senior and Emily Nisbet (11th in 400m Free)) swam well against tough competition from 82 other clubs. Full results here

The children were all inspired by a visit from Craig Gibbons' on 23rd May. He will be running a Swim Clinic at Stowe school on 11th July. See his website for details. Great Britain swimmer Craig has launched his own swim clinics which are intended to provide swimmers of the BAGCAT age (of any ability) the opportunity to learn from the best and be taught skills which will enable tham to improve. At these clinics:
Craig will be present the whole day to give demonstrations and advice on what it takes to reach the highest level. He will also share the knowledge that has been taught to him to enable him to swim at World and European Championships for Great Britain. Craig’s current coach; GB Coach Kevin Brooks will also be at the camps providing the coaching during each session.
The day will educate the swimmers and parents on the basics of nutrition and how it has a huge impact on their performances. It will also cover stroke technique and efficiency, drills, skills and land training work; to improve flexibility, core stability and injury prevention.

18/2/10: There were some great swims last weekend (13th/14th Feb) as the counties started with the 800m/1500m races. Congratulations to everyone who swam, especially to Todd Giles (1st) and Matthew Senior (2nd) who both achieved regional times (full Wantage results here). Congratulations also to Harry James who won 2 golds (100m and 200m Breaststroke) at the Wycombe and District L1 open meet.

In January swimmers from WWHSC travelled to the Coventry Open Meet in January 2009. For many of them it was their first experience of a 50m pool!
